Founded in 2024, we are a group of widely experienced musicians who provide an annual concert programme in interesting venues in Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, supporting local charities.

David Best ~ Founder and  Director

David studied conducting under Maurice Miles and founded and conducted a string orchestra at Aston University, as well as directing widely across the West Midlands, with the Dorian Chamber Orchestra.

 

He was founding Chair of the Board, of what is now Sinfonia Viva, from 1982-1992. David has played classical double bass from the age of thirteen. He taught Bass at both Malvern College and Malvern Girls School as well as at Worcester Royal Grammar School and Repton School. He studied with Leroy Cowie, then Principal Bass of the CBSO, and with Rodney Slatford OBE, founding Bass Player of the Nash Ensemble and Professor at the Royal Academy.

 

He has played as principal bass with amateur and semiprofessional orchestras in Birmingham, Leeds, Nottingham, Worcester, and London and widely across the West and East Midlands

Graham Longfils ~ Leader

After a degree in Music at the University college of North Wales (under William Mathias and Sebastian Forbes) graham studied for a Teaching diploma from Birmingham University.

 

As a teacher Graham has been Head of music at schools in Redditch, as well as a violin teacher, college lecturer in violin and was conductor of the youth orchestra in Stoke on Trent. As a soloist and principal Graham was principal lead violin at Bangor University, and currently leads the Worcester Philharmonic, and Redditch Orchestras. He has guest led numerous other orchestras in an illustrious career.

 

As soloist, he has performed concertos and concert pieces by Bach, Bruch, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Beethoven, Montiverdi, Beriot, Vaughan Williams and others. As conductor he has worked with opera groups in Worcester and Newcastle under Lyme and has conducted concerts with Redditch Orchestra and WPO.
